It is official. Nobody wants Woodstock 2009, even if it would be the historic 40th anniversary festival and all about being "green." Such is the worldwide dislike for what the event has come to represent, that being---not hippie peace, love and understand---greed, recklessness and the disregard for the safety of young people, plus lots of lawsuits.

Woodstock promoter and evangelist Michael Lang could not drum up sponsors this time around, he recently told Rolling Stone magazine. He tried. And if anyone could do it, Mr. Lang was the man. But, according to Mr. Lang, there was no “money” and “no sponsors” for the legendary hippie fest. And for Mr. Lang, and the others who put together one Woodstock festival disaster after another since 1969, it seems like it has always been about the money.

So, if you read something by your local music reporter waxing poetic about fantasy Woodstock glory days, or comments by former festival management---like Artie Kornfeld, or Wavy Gravy or Ticia Agri, or whomever---do the same, don’t be too critical. They may find it hard to separate fact from fiction or money from mayhem or rapes from rave reviews.

It’s like the Woodstock '69 old timers say: “If you remember what happened at Woodstock, you weren’t there.”

This is the third article in the series.
