Just before the start of the new year, the mega-popular social media picture wehsite released its users Top Ten most geotagged U.S. popular destinations. (Possibly, Instagram released similar lists around the world.)

Crowdsafers might have missed the U.S. Instagram listing or thought it simply fun-facts. But, it reality we live in today, Crowd Management Strategies considers the list much more significant.

The list deserves the special attention of event planners, venue operators, crowd managers and security staff because all of the geotagged destinations are places of public assembly. And, all of the destinations are potential soft targets for terrorists and violent malcontents who seek to wreak destruction on U.S. soil.

Here is the Instagram Top Ten most geotagged U.S. locations its members uploaded on the website in 2015.

1. Disneyland (Anaheim, California)
2. Times Square (New York, New York)
3. Central Park (New York, New York)
4. Disney World (Bay Lake, Florida)
5. Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles, California)
6. Santa Monica Pier (Santa Monica, California)
7. Madison Square Garden (New York, New York) )
8. Universal Studios Hollywood (Universal City, California)
9. Yankee Stadium (New York, New York)
10. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, New York)

With spring and summer events on the horizon, if you are involved in the event, crowd safety and security professions, this is a good time to make a list of the popular public assembly sites in your community---wherever you live in the world. Events and venues in your area may also be attractive soft targets. Prudence would suggest this as the operational mindset.

If you are part of the visiting public you may want to learn more about the level of public safety, crowd management and security that is provided at the location before you visit. Unfortunately, not all events or venues provide the same level of safety and security. Whether the events you attend have a reputation for safety, extra diligence is advised. Should an emergency situation, timely compliance to the requests or directives of venue management, staff and especially law enforcement and other public safety officials---is the rule. (Do as directed every time, unless your particular situation offers unique and more immediate safety solutions.)
